When does a machine become more than a machine?

When Jakob Loss shoots his ex-wife’s android, the case initially seems clear-cut: a tragic accident or, at most, property damage. But to Kyra Loss, the android was far more than a machine. During the trial, two worlds collide. To the prosecution, the android was a sentient being with a right to life. The defense, however, sees it as nothing more than a machine that was shut down.
