There is nothing that I hate more on YouTube than these stupid face thumbnails where someone gives you an exaggerated expression. It simply screams low-IQ content. I will never make such thumbnails.

But high contrast, focal point, consistency, bold text, and optimizing for mobile views is surely good advice to follow.

I’ve been thinking about using AI tools to make these trailers somewhat animated. As AI improves, they will look more and more like real movie trailers. And – who knows – maybe at some point AI will allow me to turn my books into full movies.

But I’ll do it step by step, as always. First thing to put on my to-do-list: Create basic book trailers for my YouTube channel.

As a viewer, I don’t understand the appeal of shorts at all – besides comedy shorts, I’ve never seen one of these clips on YouTube. But there has to be something to it, or a platform like TikTok wouldn’t have gotten big.
